SURF CAMP & JR GUARDS
Get stoked and surf with us all summer!
Join Surf Camp at Westerly’s beautiful beaches, that combines Jr Lifeguards, BWRAG & Surfing to provide the community opportunities to increase surf training, ocean rescue & safety, knowledge and awareness. When you live in the ocean state it’s important to foster ocean education and watermen/women who are trained and ready to navigate the oceans ever changing conditions. We strive to make a difference, to protect, to serve and preserve Rhode Island’s coastline.
SURF SKILL
Develop, improve and apply surf skills and confidence through proven teaching methods.
Intro to first aid & CPR protocols.
Practice friendly competitive games, drills and conditioning.
Cross train for other sports
Small surfer to coach ratio.
OCEAN MINDED
Coaches focus on character development through the essence of positive energy (aloha).
Learn to surf with experienced local coaches in a fun, safe environment. Make new friends & memories while expanding your ocean awareness.
Groups are formed based on age, skill and ability with small surfer to coach ratios.
EQUIPMENT
Don’t sweat the equipment. We include softop “foamies” surfboard, fins, leash & wetsuit.
Souvenir T-shirt
No hardtop surfboards permitted. Surfers can bring their own softops if preferred. This is to keep our campers safe in the lineup!
Bring a towel & water.

No prior surf experience needed
Private lessons are fantastic for a timid swimmer who needs to build confidence in the surf
THE DETAILS
Imagine being confident knowing your child is educated, independent and ocean minded. Sit back and relax on the beach knowing your child has practiced ocean condition assessments, rescue drills and can apply the skills to make safe decisions in and around the shoreline.
Learn surf basics, training, technique, safety, rescue & etiquette. Experience small ratio of 1 Instructor to 3/4 surfers (ocean conditions are taken into consideration). Camp includes, surfboard, leash, wetsuit, t-shirt keepsake, surf stoke, ocean minded community!

BRIEF SURF HISTORY
Have you heard of Hawaii’s North Shore? Hawaii is the surfing mecca where professionals and amateurs go to experience the best, most consistent and dangerous waves in the world. Perhaps you ‘ve heard of famous Pipline or Waimea Bay? Surfing dates back to the 12th century and is considered the “Sport of Kings”.
The Hawaiian Water Patrol take their jobs seriously as they educate, keep people safe and save lives on a daily basis. It is an honor and a privilege to prove oneself worthy of the title as a North Shore Lifeguard.
The Jr Lifeguard program was developed and implemented back in the 90’s and is still thriving today! Many of todays top surfers participated in the Jr Guards programs.
It is our mission to imbue a program in Westerly that has been adapted by Hawaiian culture and designed to spread ocean awareness, to respect the joys and dangers of the ocean, to make a difference, to serve, protect and educate.
